About QR and Pick

QR and Pick is a free website with tools for QR codes and random picks. You can use every page without creating an account.

What the site offers

  • QR codes for a web address or a text, for the login of a Wi-Fi network, for a contact and for a Google review link, and a reader for QR codes in images. The codes are static: they contain the content itself, do not pass through this site and do not expire.
  • Random tools: numbers, names from a list, teams and groups, round robin schedules, raffle draws, Secret Santa, a wheel, dice and coins, passwords and passphrases.

The site does not offer short links or QR codes whose destination can be changed later. Both would need a server that stores your links.

How the site works

The pages are prepared in advance and delivered as ordinary web pages. The tools run in your browser: what you type is processed on your device and is not sent to us.

Random results come from the cryptographic random number generator of your browser. The pages of the random tools explain the method.

The content stays readable when JavaScript is switched off. The tools themselves need JavaScript.

How the site is funded

QR and Pick is free to use. It may show advertisements to cover its costs.

Advertisements carry a visible label and are placed away from the buttons and input fields of a tool. The site does not use pop-up advertisements.

Accuracy

The program code of the tools is tested automatically: QR codes are read back by two independent decoders, and the random tools are tested for even distribution. The explanations were written and checked with the help of AI; they have not yet been reviewed by an independent expert.

We try to keep the content correct and up to date, but mistakes are possible. Scan a QR code before you print it, and check important results against a second source before you rely on them.

Third-party notices

Most of the program code of QR and Pick is our own. Two parts come from others and are used under their licences:

  • The passphrase generator uses the EFF Large Wordlist for Passphrases by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, without changes, under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States licence (CC BY 3.0 US). The EFF does not endorse this site.
  • The QR code reader and the check before a QR code download use the open-source library jsQR 1.4.0, under the Apache License 2.0.
